You definitely succeeded in drawing attention more to the subject, and I don't feel that much is lost without the colour. Good work! I think it looks miles better!

Great focus on his eyes. With a total black background and a brighter atmosphere in general it would be even better I guess.

I definitely like the black and white version better. It brings your eye directly to the child's face and the look of anticipation. I love how you've captured that feeling with this shot!

thanks for the input! all this helps me a lot. i also think in this one i am more drawn to his eyes, and then i find myself looking at the match to see what all the fuss is about lol!
